A REAR ENDER AND A RUNAWAY

The RCMP arrived to control traffic and interview the drivers involved.

This truck was hit from behind by the small car.Trucks of any size almost always win in collisions as they are typically larger and built stronger.

The damaged car is winched onto the flat deck auto hauler.

Bystanders and a Police Officer rushed to the aid of the driver of this car just after it rolled about 100 feet without him as he tried to run and get back in it.He was dragged a short distance as he hung on to his runaway ride.

Debris and automotive fluids cover the road.

Paramedics arrived to check out the driver and treat him for some minor injuries and make sure he is o.k.

Firemen head off to the scene.

Chester's volunteer firefighters clean up the debris and check any problems that the leaked fluids may have caused.

Winding up operations.

July 14'th,Valley Rd. and North St.-------------------After about 3 weeks of warm and sunny weather, today's rainy weather probably contributed to the first vehicular mishap above. After long spells of dry weather a sudden rainfall can cause paved surfaces to become extremely slippery as deposits of dust, rubber, oil drips and grease mix with the moisture before it can wash and drain off the road.If you do not believe it, try accelerating suddenly or stopping suddenly within the first few minutes of these conditions and you may be very surprised at the actions of your vehicle.Be very careful and cautious if you do try it.In driver's ed and defensive driving courses you will probably hear about the phenomenon but they may never give you the opportunity to experience it on a road test.
The second mishap happened as the car involved in the first accident was being hauled away. The driver had been out of his car when for some reason it rolled away on its own.He ran, grabbed it and was dragged along beside it for a short distance.Fortunately for him, good help was near and he did not appear to suffer any serious injury.
